A Dull Eyed Rattlesnake That Lay

A poem by Joaquin Miller

A dull eyed rattlesnake that lay
All loathsome, yellow-skinned, and slept,
Coil'd tight as pine-knot, in the sun
With flat head through the center run,
Struck blindly back.
